REASONS FOR RECALL:
The heat temper of the stationary glass of the optional sliding rear window assembly may not comply with requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard (FMVSS) No. 205, "Glazing Material." In the event of glass breakage, fragments could be larger than permitted by FMVSS No. 205,
presenting the potential to injure vehicle occupants.
INSPECTION:
Owners will be asked to inspect the two stationary glass components of the sliding rear window assembly for certain glass
codes, or alternately, to present their vehicles to dealers for inspection. Suspect glass has an encircled capital "H", the
manufacturer's code of "DOT-35" and a date code of "8A".
CORRECTION:
To correct this condition, stationary glass components containing all of these codes are to be replaced. If suspect glass codes
ARE NOT FOUND by owners electing selfinspection, they are asked to sign and return a prepaid post card stating that the
suspect glass codes were not found. If the suspect glass codes ARE FOUND by owners electing self-inspection, they are
instructed to contact their dealer to have the suspect glass replaced.
DEALERS SHOULD:
ASSIST ALL OWNERS WHO WISH TO HAVE DEALERS INSPECT THEIR VEHICLES FOR THE STATIONARY GLASS CODES.
CHECK BOTH PIECES OF STATIONARY GLASS FOR THE SUSPECT CODES BEFORE MAKING THE REPAIR.
MUTILATE AND SCRAP ALL STATIONARY GLASS REMOVED AS A RESULT OF THIS RECALL FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE IN THE
TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS.
PURGE OF DEALER STOCK:
From dealer parts stock, return all sliding rear window assemblies and stationary glass with all three of the affected codes to the Wixom Carlite
Warehouse.
