Removal and Installation
6.4L diesel vehicles
1. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) and ACL outlet tube.
2. Remove the RH fender splash shield.
All vehicles
3. Recover the refrigerant.
4. Drain the engine coolant.
5. Remove the instrument panel.
6. Disconnect the heater hose quick disconnect fittings at the heater core.
Vehicles with electric auxiliary heater
7. Remove the 2 electric heater battery cable nuts and disconnect the cables.

To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
All vehicles
8. Remove the 2 suction accumulator nuts.

To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
9. Disconnect the evaporator outlet and inlet fittings.

Discard the O-ring seals.
10. Remove the exterior heater core and evaporator core housing bolt.

To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
11. NOTE: For 6.4L diesel vehicles, the 2 LH heater core and evaporator core housing nuts must be removed from below the vehicle.
Remove the 3 exterior heater core and evaporator core housing nuts.

To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
12. Remove the interior heater core and evaporator core housing nut.

To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
13. Remove the interior heater core and evaporator core housing bolt.

To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
14. Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing.
15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Install new O-ring seals.
-
Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.
16. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system.
