Axle Shaft: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Remove the axle shaft bolts.

Place a drain pan under the rear hub.
3. Remove the axle shaft.
4. Inspect the following components:

The O-ring for damage. Replace as necessary.

The axle shaft for cracked material around the holes or oversized holes. Replace as necessary.
Installation
1. NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-13.
Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
