Exhaust Intermediate Pipe

Exhaust Intermediate Pipe 

Removal 

NOTE:  Exhaust fasteners are of a torque prevailing design. Use only new fasteners with the same part number as the original. Torque values must be
used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of exhaust components.

NOTE:  Some vehicle applications are not equipped with an exhaust intermediate pipe.

All engines 

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.

Gasoline engines 

2. Loosen the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-catalytic converter or catalytic converter delete pipe coupling.
3. Loosen the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-muffler coupling.
4. If equipped, disconnect the intermediate pipe from the rubber isolator.
5. Remove the exhaust intermediate pipe.

Diesel engines 

6. Loosen the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-catalytic converter coupling.
7. Loosen the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-muffler coupling.
8. If equipped, disconnect the intermediate pipe from the rubber isolator.
9. Remove the exhaust intermediate pipe.

Installation 

NOTE:  Do not tighten any fasteners until all components are aligned.

Gasoline engines 

1. Position the exhaust intermediate pipe and connect the rubber isolator.

2. NOTE:  Using an abrasive pad, clean the exhaust coupling surface area of any surface rust.

Place new couplings on the catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe joint or catalytic convert delete pipe-to-exhaust intermediate pipe joint
and the exhaust intermediate-to-muffler joint. Make sure the couplings are installed no more the 4 mm (0.15 inch) from the back of the button on
the end of the pipe.

3. Align the exhaust system. For additional information refer to Exhaust System Alignment.
4. Tighten the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-catalytic converter coupling or exhaust intermediate pipe-to-catalytic converter delete pipe coupling.

Tighten to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).

5. Tighten the exhaust intermediate pipe-to-muffler coupling.

Tighten to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).

Diesel engines 

6. Position the exhaust intermediate pipe and connect the rubber isolator.
