Using a flat-bladed screwdriver and light pressure, try to pry apart the lower/forward portion of the flex joint from the rubber isolator. Place
screwdriver as close to the rivets as possible.

If there is any movement between the rivet and the flange, the rivet was not staked.

If any of the four (4) rivets were not staked correctly, lock the steering column and replace the steering column shaft. Refer to 1999 F-SUPER
DUTY SERVICE MANUAL, Section 211-04 for steering column shaft replacement.

If inspection reveals a need for a new steering shaft, contact Renkim by calling 1-800-325-5621.

In any rivet in the lower flex joint is missing, the airbag sliding contact (clockspring) must be replaced in addition to the replacement of the
steering column shaft. Refer to 1999 F-SUPER DUTY SERVICE MANUAL, Section 501 -20B for airbag sliding contact (clockspring)
replacement.
11.
Slide stone-shield over flex joint coupling. Snap retention ear on steering gear hydraulic line.
