Drive Belt: Description and Operation
Ford vehicles are equipped with poly-V drive belts. To ensure maximum belt life, replacement drive belts should be of the same type and specification as
originally installed.
The drive belts are tensioned by an automatic tensioner which maintains proper belt tension at all times.
Loose drive belts will result in slippage that can cause a noise complaint or improper accessory operation (generator will not charge, etc.). Overly tight
drive belts will place severe loads on accessory bearings and result in premature drive belt or accessory failure.
