1996-97 ECONOLINE, F SUPER DUTY, F-i 50-350 SERIES
ISSUE:
Some 1996-97 E40D transmissions have been built with a new design level overdrive clutch piston assembly with the piston seals bonded to the piston.
The overdrive/intermediate cylinder has also changed to accommodate the new bonded seal piston.
ACTION:
Until the new design parts (Figure 1) are fully stocked, the current service parts (Figure 1) must be used to replace the new design level parts. When
replacing either the new design bonded seal piston or overdrive/intermediate cylinder assembly, replace both with current level (previous design)
overdrive piston, inner piston seal, outer piston seal and overdrive/intermediate cylinder. Refer to the following Part Replacement Chart for correct part
usage. Follow all the normal service procedures as detailed in the 1996 F-150-350/Bronco or Econoline Service Manual, Section 07-01, or the 1997
F-150 Workshop Manual, Section 307-01.
