1992 / 93 / 94 E- and F-Series ambulances and school buses equipped with 7.3L IDI diesel engines.
Reason For This Program
Field reports and investigation have indicated that the front end accessory serpentine drive belt may detach from pulleys in the system during certain
engine operation. The diesel engine dynamic operation may cause the belt to stretch. The tensioner, which is dependent on specific belt length for correct
tension of the belt, cannot contain the proper force on the belt and the belt detaches from the pulleys.
Service Action
Owners will be notified to return their trucks for replacement of the tensioner, mounting bracket and drive belt and installation of a belt guide and
improved idler pulley.
Refunds
Only for owner-paid repairs made before the date of the Owner Letter (or after the date of the Owner Letter if an emergency repair was made away from
the servicing dealer).

Ford Motor Company is providing a no-charge Service Program, Number 96B83, to owners of certain 1992 / 93 / 94 E- and F-Series ambulances and
school buses equipped with 7.3L diesel engines.
Reason For This Program
During certain engine operating conditions the front end accessory drive belt may slip or detach from the drive belt system pulleys.
If this occurs, there will be a loss of power steering assist and a gradual reduction in vacuum assist for braking as the vacuum in the brake booster is
depleted by application of the brakes. The electrical charging and engine cooling systems are also affected.
No Charge Service. At no charge to you, your dealer will replace the belt tensioner, install an improved idler pulley and belt guide and replace the
serpentine drive belt.
Your truck is eligible for this program through March 31, 1997, regardless of mileage.
How Long Will It Take?
The time needed for this service is about three hours. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your truck for a longer period.
