CLUTCH - "CHATTER/SHUDDER" ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 7.3L IDI TURBOCHARGED ENGINE AND A ZF 5-SPEED MANUAL
TRANSMISSION
LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-94 F-250, F-350
ISSUE:
The subject vehicles may exhibit a "shake/shudder/chatter" on take-off in first, second or reverse gear with no throttle applied. The vehicle's powertrain
may vibrate in this mode of operation due to poor modulation of clutch engagement.
ACTION:
Replace both the clutch disc and cover/pressure plate assembly.
DETAILED SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Inspect the clutch cover to confirm that the attaching bolts are all in place and tightened.
2.
If all attaching bolts are in place and tightened and clutch "chatter" is still a concern, then continue to Step 3.
3.
Remove the clutch cover and clutch disc. Refer to the 1994 Powertrain/Drivetrain Service Manual, Section 08-01, for details.
4.
Install a new clutch cover (F4TZ-7563-B) and clutch disc (F4TZ-7550-B) using new bolts (N802096-S2).
