Remove the No. 12 thrust bearing. See Figure 28.

Remove the low reverse sun gear and shell assembly. See Figure 29.

Before removing the reverse clutch-to-case snap ring, visually inspect to see if it is fully engaged in the case, or either partially or fully dislodged
from the case snap ring groove. See Figure 30.

If the snap ring is fully engaged in the case (not dislodged), proceed to the next steps to replace the snap ring.

This repair option will consist of installing the items from Kit # 1 or Kit # 2 (depending on engine type).
b)
If the snap ring is either partially or fully dislodged, the transmission case must be replaced as damage has most likely occurred.

In this situation, a complete disassembly and reassembly of the transmission is required. Refer to Section 307-01 of the 2005 F-Super
Duty/Excursion Workshop Manual for repair instructions.

This repair option consists of installing Kit # 1 or Kit # 2 and Kit # 3, replacing the transmission case and the oil-to-air (OTA) cooler,
and flushing the transmission cooling system.
