6.2L - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - HARSH, ABRUPT OR GEAR HUNTING SHIFT CONCERNS - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 9/1/2010

FORD:

2011 F-250, F-350

ISSUE
Some 2011 Super-Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.2L engine and TorqShift automatic transmission built on or before 9/1/2010 may exhibit harsh/abrupt
downshifts on acceleration at highway speeds, harsh/abrupt 1-2 upshifts, or hunting between 1st and 2nd gears on steep grades with maximum gross
vehicle weight conditions.

ACTION
Follow the service procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS 69.04 or higher. This calibration may also be obtained at the
website.

Please advise the customer that this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle's computer to learn the
transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a re-learning process. This
re-learning process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days.
