Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR
Removal
1. CAUTION: Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position prior to working on the electronic engine controls or the vehicle may be
damaged.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Remove the engine cooling fan.
4. Detach the wiring harness C-clip from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
5. Disconnect the ECT electrical connector.
6. Remove the ECT sensor and discard the O-ring seal.
Installation
1. NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the new O-ring seal prior to installation.
Using a new O-ring seal, install the ECT sensor.

Tighten to 18 Nm (159 lb-in).
2. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
3. CAUTION: Make sure the C-clip is correctly installed or the wiring harness can be damaged by the accessory drive belt.
