Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Description and Operation

INFORMATION AND MESSAGE CENTER

The message center display is a green vacuum fluorescent, fixed format, 2-line display integrated into the center of the instrument cluster (IC) and is
controlled by the message center switches. There are two basic instrument cluster (IC)/message center configurations. The first is the full function
message center and can be identified by the three button message center switch located in the instrument cluster (IC) finish panel. The second is the base
cluster message center and can be identified by the single reset button located in the instrument cluster (IC). Both instrument cluster (IC) configurations
display messages based upon vehicle option content.

The base cluster message center functions and menus listed below can be selected through the select/reset button by pressing and releasing the
select/reset button to scroll through the menu items. The INFO items (trip A, trip B and average fuel economy) can be reset by holding the select/reset
button for approximately 2 seconds. The SETUP items, (language, system configurable items such as autolamps or autolock) can be reset by holding the
select/reset button for approximately 2 seconds when the selected menu item is displayed. Refer to the Owner's Literature for complete operating
instructions for both the full function message center and the base instrument cluster (IC) message center.

Check Air Filter Display (6.4L Diesel)

The message center provides a message indicating when the air filter is dirty and requires replacement. When the air filter is dirty and requires
replacement, the air filter sensor displays full yellow and must be reset after air filter replacement. The air filter sensor is located on the filter box, next
to the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction, Intake Air System Components - Exploded View, 6.4L Diesel for
component location.

Reconfigurable Telltale Indicators

The message center displays reconfigurable telltale indicators in the RH side of the message center display area. Reconfigurable telltale indicators
replace indicators that have been typically displayed in the instrument cluster (IC) and use the same iconic representation (for example; the low oil
pressure reconfigurable telltale (diesel only) is represented by the oil can symbol that has been a traditionally used as the low oil pressure warning
indicator in other instrument cluster [IC] is). Reconfigurable telltales are generally displayed along with warning messages in the message center
display area of the instrument cluster (IC).

Compass Display (If equipped)

The message center provides a compass display in the information display using directional information sent from the compass module. Depending on
option content, the compass module may be located on the underside of the interior rear view mirror (with stand alone compass module) or integrated
into the interior rear view mirror.

Information Displays

The information displays are non-timed modes. The selected mode remains on until the driver presses the select/reset button (base instrument cluster
[IC]) or a message center button (message center cluster) to change the mode or it is overridden by another mode.

The information display modes (INFO button on message center clusters) are:

Setup Displays

The setup displays are timed modes and terminate after a finite interval. As part of the setup menu, the message center has the capability to configure
items such as units (English or metric), autolamp delay, to enable/disable options such as autolock.

On configurable items such as autolock, the message center indicates the appropriate selection (ON/OFF) by bracketing the selection. For example, if
the driver selects the autolock feature on, the message would display as follows: AUTOLOCK [ON] OFF. If the driver selects the autolock off, the
message would display as follows: AUTOLOCK AID ON [OFF]. For additional information on configurable items, refer to the Owner's Literature.

The base instrument center cluster setup display modes are:
