F 450 4WD Super Duty V10-6.8L VIN S (1999)
^
Remove the master differential bearings from the differential case.
16. Place the amount of differential bearing shims, as determined by the reading taken in Step 14, on the ring gear side of the differential case.
^
For example, a reading of 1.14 mm (0.045 inch), requires that 1.14 mm (0.045 inch) shims be placed on the ring gear side of the differential
case.
17. Install the differential bearing, using the Differential Bearing Cone Replacer for Dana model 50 axles, or the Carrier Replacer for Dana model 60
axles.
18. Determine the necessary amount of differential bearing shims to install between the differential case and the differential bearing on the drive
pinion side.
^
Subtract the reading taken in Step 14 from the total case end play reading taken in Step 3. Then, add 0.36 mm (0.15 inch) to the total. This is
the total amount of differential bearing shims to install between the differential case and the differential bearing on the drive pinion side.
19. Place the amount of differential bearing shims, as determined by the calculation made in the previous step, on the drive pinion side of the
differential case.
