If a split nylon washer (part number N-802714) is attached to the existing steering gear shaft, remove and retain the washer, 5. Reinstall the tie
rods and install a new roll pin to each tie rod ball joint socket.
6.
Reinstall the split nylon washer previously removed in Step 4 to the new steering gear assembly.
7.
Reinstall the bellows and breather tube to the new steering gear assembly. Use the new clamps provided with the new assembly to retain the
bellows to the steering gear assembly and the tie rods.
8.
FOR 1978 AND 1979-MODEL FAIRMONT, ZEPHYR, AND 1979-MODEL MUSTANG, CAPRI VEHICLES ONLY:

Install a steering shaft lower flange (part number E0SZ-3A525-A) on the flexible coupling.

Inspect the fittings on the power steering pressure and return hoses to determine if adapters must be installed. If adapters are required,
install service part number D8BZ-3A766-A.
For All Vehicles

Install the new steering gear assembly to the vehicle. Determine the correct Ford service part number required by referring to the part code legend
shown under the "Vehicles Involved" portion of these instructions.
10.
Flush the power steering pump in accordance with the procedure described in Section 13-01 of the appropriate vehicle/model year Ford Car Shop
Manual.

gear assemblies for 40 days for pickup by a Ford Authorized Remanufacturer or recall by Ford.
