Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1982 COUGAR, GRANADA & THUNDERBIRD & 1982-83 FAIRMONT & ZEPHYR, 83 LTD 6-200
1.
If equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at radiator.
2.
On all models, remove radiator top support, then the oil level dipstick.
3.
Raise and support vehicle, and drain oil pan.
4.
Remove nuts and bolts attaching sway bar to chassis and allow sway bar to hang downward.
5.
Remove ``K'' brace.
6.
Lower rack and pinion steering gear.
7.
Remove starter motor.
8.
Remove nuts attaching engine mounts to support brackets.
9.
Loosen rear insulator to crossmember attaching bolts.
10.
Slightly raise engine and place a {1/4} inch spacer between engine support insulator and chassis bracket. Loosen fan shroud attaching screws to
prevent damage to fan when raising engine.
11.
Support and raise transmission slightly with a suitable jack.
12.
Remove oil pan attaching bolts and lower oil pan to crossmember.
13.
Remove oil pump intermediate driveshaft, pickup tube and screen assembly and allow components to drop into oil pan.
14.
Position transmission oil cooler lines aside, if equipped, and remove oil pan from vehicle. It may be necessary to rotate crankshaft.
15.
Reverse procedure to install.
