Door Trim Panels - Rattling Noise

NOISE - "RATTLES" - FROM DOOR PANELS

FORD:

1988-91 FESTIVA

ISSUE:

A rattle noise may come from the window regulator area of the door trim panels. This is caused by excessive clearance between the door
trim panel and the door.

ACTION:

Install strips of foam tape around the door regulator. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1.

Determine if the rattle is coming from the door panels.

a.

Press in on the door trim panel, just above the window regulator handle when the noise occurs.

b.

If the noise stops, the cause of the noise is excessive clearance between the door trim panel and the door.

2.

Remove the window regulator handle using a suitable tool.

NOTE:

IF A SUITABLE TOOL IS NOT AVAILABLE, A LOOP OF HEAVY CORD CAN BE USED TO DISENGAGE THE REGULATOR
HANDLE RETAINING CLIP.

3.

Remove the door trim. Refer to Figure 1 for the location and type of fasteners used to secure the trim panel in position.
