Rocker Arm Shaft
Fig. 7 Rocker Arm & Assembly & Bolt Tightening Sequence
Fig. 8 Rocker Arm & Shaft Identification
1.
Remove rocker arm cover.
2.
Alternately and evenly loosen rocker shaft attaching bolts, then carefully lift rocker shaft assemblies from cylinder head.
3.
Remove rocker arms and springs from rocker shaft. On EFI engines, do not remove hydraulic valve lash adjusters from rocker arms unless
necessary.
4.
Measure outside diameter of rocker shaft and inside diameter of rocker arm shaft bore. The maximum difference between these two measurements
should not exceed .004 inch. On EFI engines, also check hydraulic valve lash adjuster for wear and damage and replace as necessary.
5.
On EFI engines, pour engine oil into rocker reservoir.
6.
On EFI engines, apply engine oil to hydraulic valve lash adjuster and install in rocker arm, if removed. Use care not to damage O-ring when
installing.
7.
On all engines, assemble rocker arms and springs to rocket shaft, Fig. 7. Rocker arms and shafts can be identified as shown in Fig. 8.
8.
Install assembled rocker shaft assemblies, with oil holes facing down, to cylinder head and torque attaching bolts alternately and evenly in
sequence shown in Fig. 7 to value listed at rear of this section. When tightening rocker shaft attaching bolts, pull back on rocker arm springs.
