Warm the engine to normal operating temperature.

Turn off all electrical accessories.

Make sure the idle speed is within specification.
NOTE:
REFER TO VECI LABEL FOR SPECIFICATIONS.

Connect the Rotunda Inductive Timing Light (059-00005) or equivalent.
a.
1988 - 1989 Carbureted and EFI Festiva:
Disconnect and plug the vacuum advance hoses to the distributor and disconnect the white single pin high altitude connector lead coming from
the distributor.
b.
1990 - 1991 EFI Festiva: Initiate self test by grounding the STI connector (single pin connector, yellow/blue wire) located near the wiper
motor.
32.
Check the timing at the crankshaft pulley.
NOTE:
REFER TO THE VECI LABEL FOR TIMING SPECIFICATIONS.

1988 - 1989 Carbureted Festivia: Refer to Figure 1, for the correct timing mark location.

If the timing is not within specifications, loosen the distributor mounting bolts and rotate the distributor clockwise to advance or counterclockwise
to retard timing.
34.
Tighten the distributor mounting bolts to 14-18 lb.ft. (19-25 N-m).
35.
Check the timing to make sure it did not change when the distributor mounting bolts were tightened.
a.
1988 - 1989 Carbureted and EFI Feativa:
Connect the high altitude wire and vacuum lines to the distributor vacuum advance.
b.
1990 - 1991 EFI Festiva: Disconnect the STI to ground jumper wire.
36.
Increase the engine RPM and check the timing marks to be sure the ignition timing changes.
