  1. General note.
    • When removing and installing coolant and ventilation hoses, if necessary For additional information, refer to Section  303-03 Engine Cooling.

  1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
    1. Detach the crankcase ventilation hoses.
    1. Remove the screws.

  1. Remove the oil baffle.

  1. Check the valve clearances.
    • Turn the crankshaft until the two cams of the cylinder to be checked face evenly upwards.
    • Check the valve clearances with a feeler gauge and rectify as necessary by changing the shims as described in step

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Turn the crankshaft further through approx. 90 degrees. The piston of the cylinder that is to be adjusted must not be at TDC.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The lettering on the valve shims faces downwards.
    Change the valve shims.
    1. Press down the two valve tappets simultaneously.
    1. Change the valve shims.

  1. Fit the oil baffle.

  1. Seal the parting line between the bearing cap and the cylinder head on both sides with a thin bead of sealer(SPM-4G9112-F/G).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Clean the cylinder head cover gasket and check it for damage. Only renew it if it is damaged. The gasket can be reused several times if it is in good condition.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Before fitting the gasket, coat it lightly with engine oil.
    Fit the cylinder head cover.
    1. Screw in the bolts.
    1. Attach the crankcase ventilation hoses.
