Removal

Vehicles built up to 08/1999

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Brake fluid contains polyglycol ether and polyglycol. Prevent eye contact. Wash your hands thoroughly after working with brake fluid. If brake fluid gets into the eyes, flush the eyes with cold running water for 15 minutes. If the irritation persists, call a doctor. If brake fluid is swallowed, drink water and induce vomiting. Call a doctor immediately. Failure to observe these instructions can lead to personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid contacts the paintwork, rinse the affected areas immediately with cold water.
    Remove the pre-load valve.
    1. Take off the protective cap.
    1. Undo the bleed nipple.
    1. Unscrew the pre-load valve.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the clutch slave cylinder.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    1. Detach the clutch slave cylinder from the clutch housing.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Also see the following job step.
    Punch mark the input shaft oil seal
    • Punch mark the input shaft oil seal using the special tool.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Carry out this step only in the position shown.
    Remove the input shaft oil seal (cont.).

    1. Radial oil seal
    1. Closed ball bearing

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the input shaft ball bearing.
    Remove the drive halfshaft oil seal.
    1. Screw a 2,5 x 15 mm self-tapping screw a maximum of two turns into the input shaft oil seal.
    1. Lever out the input shaft oil seal.

Installation

All Vehicles

  1. Fit the drive halfshaft oil seal and the clutch slave cylinder.
    1. Position the input shaft oil seal.
    1. Position the clutch slave cylinder.
    1. Tighten the bolts evenly. In doing so, press the input shaft oil seal into the transmission housing.
Vehicles built up to build month 08/1999

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The pre-load valve will be damaged if the specified torque is exceeded.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Check the oil seal and renew as necessary.
    Fit the pre-load valve.
    • Tighten the bleed nipple and push on the protective cap.
