Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can ignite. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  1. Drain the fuel tank using proprietary fuel tank draining equipment.

  1. Remove the fuel pump/sender unit access panel (four screws).

  1. Disconnect the fuel pump/sender unit multiplug.

  1. Disconnect the fuel pump/sender unit supply and return pipes.
    1. Hold the grommets against the plastic surrounds using a screw driver.
    1. Disconnect the fuel pump/sender unit feed and return pipes.

  1. Remove the fuel pump/sender unit locking ring.

  1. Insert the fuel pump/sender unit remover/installer tool at an angle into the fuel tank.

  1. Remove the fuel pump/sender unit.
    • Insert the locking tang into the groove in the base of the fuel pump/sender unit and latch the top bar over the top of the sender unit
    1. Turn the tool anti-clockwise.
    1. Remove the fuel pump/sender unit.

Installation
  1. Install the fuel pump/sender unit in the fuel pump/sender unit remover/installer tool.

  1. Insert the fuel pump/sender unit at an angle into the fuel tank.
    • Install a new rubber seal.

  1. Press down firmly on the special tool until the fuel pump/sender unit latches are fully engaged.

  1. Refit the locking ring.
    • Line up the arrows on the tank and fuel pump/sender unit
  1. Refit the fuel pump/sender unit fuel supply and return pipes.
  1. Refit the fuel pump/sender unit multiplug.
  1. Refit the access cover.
  1. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
