Inspection and Checking

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually check the following electrical causes for the concern:

PINPOINT TEST A : REVERSING LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE

A1: CHECK FUSE F13 (CJB)

Ignition switch in position 0.

CHECK fuse F13 (CJB) (15 A).

Is the fuse OK?
Yes
No
RENEW fuse F13 (15 A) and check the operation of the system. If the fuse blows again, LOCATE and RECTIFY the short to ground using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A2: CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT FUSE F13 (CJB)

Connect fuse F13 (CJB).

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between fuse F13 (15 A) and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
Vehicles with manual transmission: GO to A3.
Vehicles with automatic transmission: GO to A5.
No
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the central junction box (CJB). CHECK the operation of the system.
A3: CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE IN-GEAR SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect in-gear switch from connector C213.
3
Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between the in-gear switch, connector C213, pin 2, circuit 14-LG28 (VT/WH), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between fuse F13 (CJB) and the in-gear switch using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A4: CHECK THE IN-GEAR SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Connect a fused jumper wire (15 A) to the in-gear switch, connector C213, between pin 1, circuit 14-LG39(A) (VT/OG) and pin 2, circuit 14S-LG28 (VT/WH), wiring harness side.

Ignition switch in position II.

Check the operation of the reversing lamps.

Do the reversing lamps illuminate?
Yes
RENEW the in-gear switch. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
- Courier and refrigerated van: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit(s) between the in-gear switch and soldered connection S37 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles for Mexico: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit(s) between the in-gear switch and the rear left-hand rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles with only one reversing lamp: GO to A7.
A5: CHECK VOLTAGE AT TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect transmission range sensor from connector C104.

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between the transmission range sensor, connector C104, pin 1, circuit 14-LG28 (VT/WH), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit(s) between fuse F13 (CJB) and the transmission range sensor using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A6: CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR

Ignition switch in position 0.

Connect a fused jumper wire (15 A) to the transmission range sensor, connector C104, between pin 1, circuit 14-LG28 (VT/WH) and pin 2, circuit 14S-LG16 (VT/OG), wiring harness side.

Ignition switch in position II.

Check the operation of the reversing lamps.

Do the reversing lamps illuminate?
Yes
RENEW the transmission range sensor. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
- Vehicles for Mexico: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the transmission range sensor and the rear left-hand rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles with only one reversing lamp: GO to A7.
A7: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF LEFT-HAND OR RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

Ignition switch in position 0.

  • Vehicles with manual transmission: in-gear switch to connector C213
  • Vehicles with automatic transmission: transmission range sensor to connector C104

SWITCH ON the side lights.

Check the rear side lights.

Does the rear side light on the relevant vehicle side illuminate?
Yes
LHD: GO to A8.
RHD: GO to A9.
No
A8: CHECK VOLTAGE AT THE RIGHT-HAND REVERSING LAMP

Disconnect right-hand rear lamp assembly from connector:.
  • Vehicles without trailer socket: C49
  • Vehicles with trailer socket: C49a

Ignition switch in position II.

ENGAGE reverse gear.

Measure voltage between right-hand rear lamp assembly:
  • Vehicles without trailer socket: connector C49, pin 1, circuit 14S-LG39 (VT/OG), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with trailer socket and rear fog lamp cut-off relay: connector C49a, pin 1, circuit (VT/YE), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with trailer socket, without rear fog lamp cut-off relay: connector C49a, pin 1, circuit (GN), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with 13-pin trailer socket: connector C49a, pin 1, circuit (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
- Vehicles with manual transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the in-gear switch and the lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the transmission range sensor and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A9: CHECK VOLTAGE AT THE LEFT-HAND REVERSING LAMP

Disconnect left-hand rear lamp assembly from connector:.
  • Vehicles without trailer socket: C50
  • Vehicles with trailer socket: C50a

Ignition switch in position II.

ENGAGE reverse gear.

Measure voltage between left-hand rear lamp assembly:
  • Vehicles without trailer socket: connector C50, pin 5, circuit 14S-LG39 (VT/OG), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with 7-pin trailer socket: connector C50a, pin 5, circuit (VT/YE), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with auxiliary trailer socket: connector C50a, pin 5, circuit (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
- Vehicles with manual transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the in-gear switch and the lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the transmission range sensor and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
A10: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF LEFT-HAND OR RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect left-hand rear lamp assembly from connector:.
  • LHD: C49(a)
  • RHD: C50(a)

Measure resistance between lamp assembly:
  • LHD without trailer socket: rear right, connector C49, pin 2, circuit 31-LF24 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.
  • LHD with trailer socket: rear right, connector C49a, pin 2, circuit (GN), wiring harness side and ground.
  • RHD without trailer socket: rear left, connector C50, pin 4, circuit 31-LF23 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.
  • RHD with trailer socket: rear left, connector C50a, pin 4, circuit (GN), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
- LHD: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between rear lamp assembly and ground connection G3 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- RHD: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between rear lamp assembly and ground connection G5 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.

PINPOINT TEST B : ONE INDIVIDUAL REVERSING LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

Is the vehicle a Courier/refrigerated van?
Yes
Left-hand reversing lamp is inoperative: GO to B6.
Right-hand reversing lamp is inoperative: GO to B9.

B2: DETERMINE EQUIPMENT LEVEL

Determine equipment level.

Is the vehicle equipped with only one reversing lamp?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test A.
No
Right-hand reversing lamp is inoperative: GO to B3.
Left-hand reversing lamp is inoperative: GO to B5.
B3: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF THE RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

SWITCH ON the side lights.

Check the rear right-hand side light.

Does the rear right-hand side light illuminate?
Yes
No
B4: CHECK VOLTAGE AT THE RIGHT-HAND REVERSING LAMP

Disconnect right-hand rear lamp assembly from connector C49.

Ignition switch in position II.

ENGAGE reverse gear.

Measure the voltage between right-hand rear lamp assembly, connector C49, pin 1, circuit 14S-LG39 (VT/OG), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in circuit 14S-LG39 (VT/OG) between the left-hand rear lamp assembly and the right-hand rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B5: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF LEFT-HAND OR RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect rear lamp assembly from connector.
  • Left-hand reversing lamp inoperative: C50
  • Right-hand reversing lamp inoperative: C49

Measure resistance between lamp assembly:
  • Left-hand reversing lamp inoperative: rear left, connector C50, pin 4, circuit 31-LF23 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Right-hand reversing lamp inoperative: rear right, connector C49, pin 2, circuit 31-LF24 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
- Left-hand reversing lamp inoperative: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the rear lamp assembly and ground connection G5 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Right-hand reversing lamp inoperative: LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the rear lamp assembly and ground connection G3 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B6: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF LEFT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

SWITCH ON the side lights.

Check the left-hand rear side light.

Does the left-hand rear side light illuminate?
Yes

  • LHD, vehicles without trailer socket: connector C1050, pin 6, circuit 14S-LG36 (VT/BK), wiring harness side and ground.
  • RHD, vehicles without trailer socket: connector C1050, pin 6, circuit 14S-LG39A (VT/OG), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles without 13-pin trailer socket: connector C1050a, pin 6, circuit (GN), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with 13-pin trailer socket: connector C1050a, pin 6, circuit (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit(s) between soldered connection S37 and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B8: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF LEFT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Measure resistance between left-hand rear lamp assembly:
  • Vehicles without trailer socket: connector C1050, pin 2, circuit 31-LF23 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with trailer socket: connector C1050a, pin 2, circuit (GN), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the rear lamp assembly and ground connection G5 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B9: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF THE RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

SWITCH ON the side lights.

Check the rear right-hand side light.

Does the rear right-hand side light illuminate?

  • RHD, vehicles without trailer socket: connector C1049, pin 6, circuit 14S-LG36 (VT/BK), wiring harness side and ground.
  • Vehicles with trailer socket: connector C1049a, pin 6, circuit (GN), wiring harness side and ground.

Does the meter display battery voltage?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between soldered connection S37 and the rear lamp assembly using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
B11: CHECK GROUND CONNECTION OF THE RIGHT-HAND REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY

  • Vehicles without trailer socket: connector C1049, pin 2, circuit 31-LF24 (BK), wiring harness side and ground.

Is less than 2 Ohm measured?
Yes
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the rear lamp assembly. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
LOCATE and RECTIFY the break in the circuit between the rear lamp assembly and ground connection G3 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.

CHECK the powertrain control module (PCM) using WDS and RENEW if necessary. CHECK the operation of the system.
C4: DETERMINE VEHICLE EQUIPMENT LEVEL

Determine vehicle equipment level.

Is the vehicle equipped with a navigation system?
Yes
No
- Vehicles with manual transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the short to battery voltage in the circuits connected to the in-gear switch, connector C213, pin 1 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the short to battery voltage in the circuits connected to the transmission range sensor, connector C104, pin 2 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
C5: CHECK THE AUDIO/NAVIGATION CONTROL PANEL

Ignition switch in position 0.

Connect fuse F30 (15 A) BJB.

Connect fuse F33 (3 A) BJB.

Disconnect fuse F6 (7.5 A) CJB.

Disconnect fuse F19 (7.5 A) CJB.

Disconnect fuse F22 (10 A) CJB.

Check the reversing lamps.

Do the reversing lamps illuminate continuously?
Yes
- Vehicles with manual transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the short to battery voltage in the circuits connected to the in-gear switch, connector C213, pin 1 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: LOCATE and RECTIFY the short to battery voltage in the circuits connected to the transmission range sensor, connector C104, pin 2 using the Wiring Diagrams. CHECK the operation of the system.
No
CHECK and if necessary RENEW the audio/navigation control panel. CHECK the operation of the system.
