INTERIOR WATER LEAK FROM REAR OF ROOF
OPENING PANEL
FORD:
2009 Flex
ISSUE
Some 2009 Ford Flex vehicles may exhibit a water leak from the rear of the roof opening panel. This may be more pronounced when parked with the
front of the vehicle elevated. This may be caused by headliner foam panels restricting the rear drain tubes for the roof opening panel.
ACTION
Follow the service procedure to correct the concern.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Inspect for and remove any debris in the roof opening panel channel that may be blocking the drain tube openings.
2. Lower the headliner to gain access to the foam panels on the topside of the headliner. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05. (Figure 1)
a. It is not necessary to remove the headliner from the vehicle. Windshield should not be removed.
3. Measure approximately 75 mm (2-31/32") from the top of the foam. (Figures 1)
4. Using a utility knife, carefully cut and remove 75 mm (2 31/32") of foam from the right hand and left hand sides of the headliner, ensuring not to
damage any wiring.
NOTE
DO NOT CUT TO THE BASE OF THE HEADLINER. THERE SHOULD BE 2 mm (3/32") OF FOAM REMAINING ON THE HEADLINER
BASE.
