This article supersedes TSB 9-8-4 to update the Title, Issue Statement and Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2008-2009 Focus vehicles built on or before 4/1/2009 may exhibit a MIL On With DTC, P1702 (Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Circuit
Intermittent), P0111 (Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance), or P0456 (Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected) may be due
to the powertrain control module (PCM) calibration.
ACTION
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 60.06 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.3 DVD.
Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
After reprogramming the PCM, if any of the DTC's reset follow normal diagnosis.
For DTC P1702 perform pin point test C in Work Shop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01. Only replace the TR sensor if instructed to in the pin point test.
For DTC P0456 perform IDS Evap Leak Test.
DTC P0111 only applies to vehicles equipped with a block heater.
