Rear Suspension - Rear Lower Arm Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.
  1. Set the suspension to the design height setting. For additional information, refer to Section  204-00 Suspension System - General Information.

  1. Mark the position of the rear lower arm adjustment cam to the crossmember.

  1. Remove the rear lower arm.

Installation

All vehicles
NOTE:
NOTE:Final tightening of the rear suspension components should be carried out at the design height setting.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the rear lower arm to wheel knuckle retaining bolt at this stage.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Align the mark on the rear lower arm adjustment cam to the mark on the crossmember.
    Install the rear lower arm.
  1. Lower the suspension from the design height setting.
3-door, 4-door and 5-door

  1. Attach the stabilizer bar to the rear lower arm.
All vehicles
  1. Install the spring.
    For additional information, refer to Spring in this section.
  1. Install the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.
  1. Check the toe setting and adjust as necessary. For additional information, refer to Section  204-00 Suspension System - General Information.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Final tightening of the rear lower arm adjustment cam nut should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Tighten the rear lower arm adjustment cam nut.
