Parking Brake and Actuation - Parking Brake Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Description and Operation

The parking brake system is cable operated and controlled by an independent hand operated parking brake control.

The parking brake system operates the rear drum or rear disc brake system as follows:

  • On vehicles with rear brake drums an independent hand - operated parking brake control lever actuates the rear brake shoes directly through a cable system.
  • On vehicles with rear disc brakes the parking brake control lever activates the rear brake calipers through a cable and rear caliper lever with an integral cam. A pawl within the rear brake caliper rotates the piston adjustment screw to compensate for pad wear.

To adjust the cable, operate the parking brake control several times.
