Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.

  1. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
    1. Remove the retaining clip and detach the inner cable from the throttle body.
    1. Rotate the outer cable.
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable.

  1. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.

  1. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Fuel supply line connectors are white or are identified by a white band. Fuel return line connectors are red or are identified by a red band.
    Disconnect the fuel supply and fuel return lines from the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel injection supply manifold.
    1. Pull the clip to release the catch.
    1. Lift the connector to release the line.

  1. Remove the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel injection supply manifold.

  1. Remove and discard the fuel pressure regulator O - ring seal.

  1. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold.

  1. Remove the fuel injector from the supply manifold.
    1. Slide the clip to release the injector.
    1. Remove the injector.

  1. Remove and discard the fuel injector O - ring seals.

Installation

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not use silicone grease to lubricate O - ring seals as it will block the fuel injectors.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new injector O - ring seals.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new fuel pressure regulator O - ring seal.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure
    • Lubricate the fuel injector and fuel pressure regulator O - ring seals with clean engine oil to aid installation.
  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
