Alternative Fuel Control Module (AFCM)
The AFCM communicates with the vehicles powertrain control module (PCM). The AFCM is fitted to control the following engine management functions:
- fuel flow
- ignition advance
- diagnostics
The AFCM has the following sensor input signals:
- manifold absolute pressure (MAP)
- fuel tank pressure
- LPG select switch position
- crankshaft position (CKP)
- heated oxygen content (HO2S)
- throttle position (TP)
- engine coolant temperature (ECT)
- camshaft position (CMP)
The AFCM has the following output signals:
- fuel level and fuel flow
- petrol fuel pump cut-out
LPG Fuel Gauge
The LPG fuel gauge is an additional fuel gauge and is located in the instrument cluster. This gauge has the following features:
- displays the fuel quantity in a bar chart form
- a LPG running indicator
The LPG indicator is only lit when the engine is running on LPG.
LPG Select Switch
The LPG select switch is located in the instrument cluster. The switch outputs a 12 volt signal to the alternative fuel control module that indicates the type of fuel selected. An integrated light emitting diode (LED) indicator is illuminated when the switch is activated.
Fuel Injection Supply Manifold
The fuel injection supply manifold is mounted above the engine cover and consists of the following components:
- a fuel injection rail
- four fuel injectors
- a mounting frame
A flexible hose connects to the fuel lines and supplies the fuel injection supply manifold. The fuel injectors on the fuel injection supply manifold sequentially inject LPG into the engine intake manifold.
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
The AFCM uses the MAP sensor signal to measure the engine load. This signal varies between 0–5 volts dependant on the vehicle engine load.
Petrol Fuel Pump Disable Relay
The fuel pump disable relay disables the petrol pump when the vehicle is operating in LPG mode.
Shared Sensors
The following sensors are monitored by the AFCM:
- crankshaft position (CKP)
- camshaft position (CMP)
- heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
- throttle position (TP)
- engine coolant temperature (ECT)
