Procedure in the event of poor ventilation of the vehicle interior and misting of the windshield, side windows and rear window.

Vehicles, built to 15.01.99 (build code XC).

Should a customer express concern about poor ventilation of the vehicle interior and misting of the windshield, side windows and rear window, the probable cause is insufficient forced air extraction in the area of the rear bumper. This should be rectified by installing a modified cover to the forced air extraction vents.
For additional information, refer to
Heater Core Housing in this section.

Parts Required

Description
Forced air extraction cover

NOTE:
NOTE:After reworking the vehicle as described, make sure that the customer is fully conversant with the operation of the temperature and air distribution controls, as described in the Owner's Manual.

Procedure in the event of misting or icing-up, on the inside of the windshield, side windows and rear window.

This is valid for vehicles, built from 08.98 (build code WP) and markets Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

NOTE:
NOTE:First carry out ”Procedure in the event of poor ventilation of the vehicle interior and misting of the windshield, side windows and rear window" before proceeding this procedure.

Should a customer express concern about poor interior ventilation and the windshield, side windows and rear window misting or icing-up, the probable cause in certain wether conditions, is snow and slush swirling up and lodging between the rear panel blocking the forced air extension vents. This should be resolved by cleaning the blockage and installing mudflaps.

Parts Required

Description
Rear mudflap kit - hatchback
Rear mudflap kit - notchback
Rear mudflap kit - estate

NOTE:
NOTE:Verification of the concern must be done in bad weather conditions because the snow and slush will melt when the temperature raises (e.g. in the workshop).

If the forced air extraction vent is blocked, ice, snow and slush must be thoroughly cleared away. Mudflaps should be installed in front of the rear bumper to prevent a re-occurrence of the concern.

Procedure in the event of whistling noises from the heater core housing.

Should a customer concern about a whistling noise when the blower is set to level 3 or 4, this is probably due to manufacturing tolerances causing a gap between the components of the heater core housing. This should be rectified by applying additional sealing tape to the heater core housing to seal off the components.
For additional information, refer to Blower Motor in this section.
