Removal and Installation

Removal

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure that the windshield wiper arms are in the park position.
NOTE:
NOTE:The butyl seal will be damaged when the cowl panel is removed.
All vehicles
  1. Remove the windshield wiper arms.
Vehicles built up to 01/1999
  1. Remove the cowl panel grille.
    1. Remove the caps.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    • Clean the butyl seal residues from the cowl panel grille and the windshield.
Vehicles built up to 05/1999
  1. Remove the cowl panel grille.
    1. Remove the cap.
    1. Remove the bolt.
    1. Release the clips.
    • Clean the butyl seal residues from the cowl panel grille and the windshield.
Vehicles built 05/1999 onwards
  1. Using a suitable knife, cut the butyl strip between the windshield and the cowl panel grille.

  1. Remove the cowl panel grille.
    1. Remove the cap.
    1. Remove the bolt.
    1. Release the clips.
    • Carefully lift the cowl panel grille to remove it from the cowl panel grille to body retaining clips.
    • Clean the butyl seal residues from the cowl panel grille and the windshield.

  1. Remove the cowl panel grille to body retaining clips from the body on both sides (right-hand side shown).

Installation

Vehicles built up to 01/1999
  1. Install the cowl panel grille.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Install the caps.
Vehicles built up to 05/1999
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Use a new butyl strip.
    Install the butyl strip on the cowl panel grille.

  1. Install the cowl panel grille.
    1. Locate the clips.
    1. Install the bolt.
    1. Install the cap.
Vehicles built 05/1999 onwards
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the cowl panel grille to body retaining clips are fully seated.
    Install the cowl panel grille to body retaining clips to the cowl panel grille on both sides (right-hand side shown).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Use a new butyl strip.
    Install the butyl strip on the cowl panel grille.
    1. Install the butyl strip beginning from the middle of the cowl panel grille.
    1. Fold over 40 mm of the butyl strip protective cover by 90 degrees.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the cowl panel grille to body retaining clips are installed on the cowl panel grille.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that all clips are fully seated.
    Install the cowl panel grille.
    • Carefully press the cowl panel grille to install the cowl panel grille to body retaining clips.
    1. Locate the clips.
    • Remove the butyl strip protective cover and press the cowl panel grille to attach it to the windshield.
    1. Install the bolt.
    1. Install the cap.
All vehicles
  1. Install the windshield wiper arms.
