Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Remove the front door trim panel.
    For additional information, refer to: Front Door Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the side impact energy absorption panel.

  1. Remove the screw (if equipped).

  1. Detach the door latch remote control from the door inner panel.
    1. Insert a flat-bladed screwdriver into the semi-circular shaped hole and lever towards the front of the door latch remote control.
    1. Pull the front of the door latch remote control away from the door inner panel.
    1. Unhook the door latch remote control from the door inner panel.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not touch the adhesive surface as re-bonding will be impaired.
    Peel back the watershield.

  1. Disconnect the door latch actuator electrical connector.

  1. Remove the exterior door handle access hole grommet from the door.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The screw must be fully disengaged from the door lock cylinder bezel although it is not necessary to fully remove the screw.
    Loosen the screw.

  1. Remove the door lock cylinder bezel.

  1. Remove the exterior door handle.
    1. Slide the exterior door handle to release.
    1. Remove the exterior door handle and gaskets.

  1. Remove the screws.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The screw must be fully disengaged from the exterior door handle although it is not necessary to fully remove the screw.
    Loosen the screw.

  1. Detach the door latch.
    1. Press the door latch to release.
    1. Detach the door latch.

  1. Detach the door latch security shield.

  1. Remove the door latch and exterior door handle reinforcement plate.

  1. Disconnect the door lock cylinder connecting rod (if equipped).
    1. Rotate the clip counterclockwise to release the connecting rod.
    1. Disconnect the connecting rod.

  1. Disconnect the exterior door handle reinforcement plate connecting rod.

  1. Remove and discard the exterior door handle adjustment clip.

  1. Remove the door latch
    1. Detach the door latch remote control outer cable.
    1. Rotate the door latch remote control clockwise.
    1. Remove the door latch.

Installation

  1. Install the door latch remote control to the door latch.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new adjustment clip.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not lock the adjustment clip into place at this stage.
    Install the exterior door handle adjustment clip and connecting rod.

  1. Connect the exterior door handle retaining plate connecting rod.

  1. Connect the door lock cylinder connecting rod (if equipped).
    1. Connect the connecting rod.
    1. Rotate the clip to lock the connecting rod in position.

  1. Install the door latch.
    1. Slide the door latch into position.
    1. Press the door latch to engage the locking tangs.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not tighten the door latch screws at this stage.
    Install the screws.

  1. Attach the door latch security shield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install the gaskets before locating the exterior door handle.
    Install the exterior door handle.
    1. Locate the exterior door handle.
    1. Slide the exterior door handle until it locks into place.

  1. Tighten the exterior door handle screw.

  1. Install the door lock cylinder exterior cover.

  1. Tighten the door lock cylinder bezel.

  1. Press the door latch connecting rod adjustment clip to set the latch position.

  1. Connect the door latch actuator electrical connector.

  1. Tighten the door latch screws.
  1. Re–bond the watershield.

  1. Attach the door latch remote control.
    1. Locate the handle into the fixing.
    1. Install the door latch remote control.

  1. Install the screw (if equipped).

  1. Install the side impact energy absorption panel.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Two audible clicks should be heard when the door latch lever is closed completely.
    Close the door latch lever in the jaws of the door latch.
  1. Lock and unlock the door latch using the rocker lever on the door latch remote control handle.

  1. Open the door latch using the exterior door handle. The door latch should open at approximately 75% of handle full travel. The exterior door handle should have between 5-6 mm of travel after the door latch has released.
  1. If the door latch does not open correctly remove the door latch and reset the door latch connecting rod adjustment clip.
  1. Install the front door trim panel.
