Remote Transmitter Programming
Remote Transmitter Programming
NOTE: A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed to the vehicle. Programming must be done at the same time for all the remote
transmitters.
NOTE: Before entering the remote transmitter programming mode, make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and that the anti-theft
system is not armed or triggered (if equipped).
1. Close all doors to make sure conflicting chimes do not sound during programming.
2. Turn the ignition switch from position I to position II four times within six seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to position 0.
4. A chime sounds and an LED will illuminate to indicate that the learning mode has been accessed and it is possible to program remote transmitters.
5. Within 10 seconds of the previous step, press any button on the remote transmitter being programmed until a chime is heard and the LED flashes.
This indicates a new transmitter code has been successfully received.
6. After each successful remote transmitter programming, another 10 second learning mode is automatically entered, up to a maximum of four times.
7. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat step 5.
8. The system will exit the learning mode if the ignition switch is turned to position III, no new remote transmitter is programmed during the 10
seconds or if four remote transmitters have been programmed.
9. NOTE: An incorrect programming procedure does not affect the stored codes. After successful programming, only the new programmed remote
transmitters will be accepted.
10. Test all the programmed remote transmitters, by activating and deactivating the remote locking and unlocking functions.
Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys

PID SPARE KEY must be enabled for this procedure to operate. If this PID is not enabled, refer to Anti-Theft Security Access then select SPARE

If the programming procedure is successful, the new key(s) will start the vehicle and the anti-theft indicator will illuminate for approximately three
seconds.

If the programming procedure is not successful, the new key(s) will not start the engine. The powertrain control module (PCM) disables the engine
for 20 seconds every time DTC B1601 is set. The ignition must remain in position II for at least 20 seconds before an attempt is made to start the
engine with any encoded ignition key. Check the PCM PID ANTISCAN for this unprogrammed key time out status. The anti-theft indicator will
flash. If the programming procedure was not successful leave the ignition switch in position II for at least 30 seconds, repeat the Key
Programming procedure from Step 1. If the failure repeats, refer to Diagnostic and Testing to review DTCs and carry out Pinpoint Tests.

A maximum of eight ignition keys can he programmed to a Passive Anti-theft System (PATS) equipped vehicle.

If the steps are not carried out as outlined, the programming procedure will end.

Ignition keys must have correct mechanical key cut for the vehicle and must he a PATS encoded key.
1. Insert first programmed key into ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch from the RUN position to the OFF position (maintain ignition
switch in the RUN position for one second).
2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and remove the first key from the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Within five seconds of turning the ignition switch to the OFF position, insert the second programmed ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder
and turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position (maintain the ignition switch in the RUN position for one second).
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and remove the second key from the ignition lock cylinder.
5. Within ten seconds of turning the ignition switch to the OFF position, insert the unprogrammed ignition key (new key) into the ignition lock
cylinder and turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position (maintain the ignition switch in the RUN position for one second
).
6. If it is desired to program additional key(s), repeat the applicable key programming procedure from step 1.
Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment
NOTE:

This procedure is used when a customer needs keys programmed into the system and does not have two programmed ignition keys available. This
procedure is also useful when programmed ignition key(s) have been lost or the ignition switch assembly has been replaced, and it is desired to
erase key(s) from the Passive Anti-theft System (PATS) memory.
