This article supersedes TSB 09-24-8 to update the Service Procedure and the Part List.
ISSUE
Some 2009 Fusion and Milan vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine and built between 5/1/2008 and 12/31/2008 may exhibit a malfunction indicator light
(MIL) on with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0340 and/or P0344 camshaft position sensor circuit.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the RH bank (Bank 1) valve cover (located toward bulkhead area). Remove the RH intake camshaft front thrust bearing cap and inspect the
camshaft thrust surface for visible wear. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01B. Valve cover seals may be reused.
a. If visible wear is present, proceed to Step 2.
b. If visible wear is not present, do not continue with this article. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal
diagnostics.
2. Remove the LH bank (Bank 2) valve cover (radiator side). Remove the LH exhaust camshaft front thrust bearing cap and inspect the camshaft thrust
surface for visible wear. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01B. Valve cover seals may be reused.
a. If visible wear is present, proceed to Step 3.
b. If visible wear is not present, reassemble LH bank components. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01B. Proceed to Step 3.
3. Install Kit-Camshaft Cap, RH Intake Camshaft and/or LH Exhaust Camshaft. Refer to the procedure in the instruction sheet. For reassembly of the
engine, refer to WSM, Section 303-01B.
a. If the camshaft position sensor(s) is contaminated with oil, clean connector(s) and sensor(s).
4. Change engine oil and filter.
