Remove
1. Remove the camshafts as described in Operation No. 21 284 0.
2. Take out the hydraulic tappets and lay them in order to one side.

3. Attach the special tools.

NOTE:

Set the piston of the cylinder to be worked on to BDC and in doing so guide the timing chain through.

4. Apply compressed air to the cylinder (7‐10 bar).

CAUTION:

Use a brass drift to release the valve spring retainer.

5. Release the valve spring retainer.

CAUTION:

Take care not to damage the valve stem when pressing down the valve spring retainer.

6. Remove the valve spring together with the valve spring retainer and the collets.
• Compress the valve spring.
• Take out the collets using the special tool.
• Release the spring and remove it together with the valve spring retainer.

7. Remove the valve stem oil seals.
Install

8. Slide on the protective fitting sleeve.
   Coat the valve stems with hypoid oil.

9. Fit new valve stem oil seals.
• Coat the valve stem oil seals with hypoid oil and fit them.
• Remove the protective fitting sleeve.

10. Fit the valve spring and the valve collets.
• Insert the valve spring and the valve spring retainer.
• Compress the valve spring.

NOTE:

Make sure that the valve collets are correctly seated.

• Bring the valve collets into position using some grease and a small screwdriver.
• Release the valve spring.
11. Repeat the steps for every valve stem oil seal.
12. Detach the valve spring compressor together with the adapter.
13. Disconnect the compressed air supply.
14. Insert the hydraulic tappets.
15. Install the camshafts as described in Operation No. 21 284 0.
