Removal and Installation
Special Tools

24‐003Installer/remover, radiator hose clamp
Remove
1. Disconnect the battery negative lead. For additional information, refer to Subsection 31‐01.
2. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Subsection 01‐03.

3. Detach the engine undershield.

CAUTION:

When draining off the coolant, make sure that it does not get onto the timing belt as this can lead to failure of the belt. To avoid contamination, take appropriate precautions, if necessary remove the timing belt.

4. Drain off the coolant.
• Place a clean tray under the radiator.

NOTE:

Reinstall the coolant hose after draining off the coolant.

• Detach the coolant hose using Special Tool 24‐003.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove the windscreen wiper linkage as described in Operation Number 32 554 0.

7. Remove the upper coolant hoses using Special Tool 24‐003.
Remove heater controls
8. Remove the radio and power amplifier (if equipped) as described in Operation Number 38 456 0.

9. Remove the bezels as necessary.
1. Cassette compartment bezel.
2. Radio compartment bezel.
3. Heater operating panel console.

10. Remove the radio/heater operating switch bezel.

11. Detach the heater control unit and the retaining frame.

12. Disconnect the plug from the retaining frame and remove the retaining frame.

13. Disconnect the plugs, vacuum hoses and Bowden cables from the heater control unit.
1. Plugs
2. Vacuum hoses.
3. Bowden cables.
14. Remove the fascia crash padding as described in Operation Number 43 644 0.

15. Detach the brake and clutch pedal bracket from the fascia crash padding strut.

16. Detach the central junction box (CJB).
1. Pull out the pivot joint retaining clip.
2. Press in the locking pin.
   Tilt the CJB forwards and out of its installation position.

17. Remove the ABS module.
1. Unscrew the bolt.
2. Disconnect the plug.

18. Detach the module bracket.
   Detach the module bracket from the bulkhead (one bolt).

19. Detach the module bracket (continued).
   Remove the left hand bolt from the fascia crash padding strut.

20. Detach the module bracket (continued).
   Remove the right hand bolt from the fascia crash padding strut.

21. Detach the heater housing.

NOTE:

The nuts are located behind pre‐stamped flaps of the sound‐damping matting.

   Unscrew the three nuts from the bulkhead.

22. Detach the heater housing (continued).
• Pull the heater housing forwards and disconnect the vacuum hose.
• Remove the heater housing.
Install

NOTE:

Torque: refer to ”General Specifications".

23. Install the components in the reverse order.
24. Top up with coolant and remove the air from the cooling system
