Removal and Installation
Remove
1. Drain the air conditioning as described in Operation Number 34 620 0.
2. Raise the vehicle.

3. Remove the engine undershield (four bolts, two nuts) (right‐hand side shown).
4. Lower the vehicle.

5. Remove the upper and lower part of the engine compartment/battery intermediate panel.
• Unclip the battery cable from the intermediate panel.
• Pull out the intermediate panel.

6. Remove the upper part of the air cleaner housing together with the intake air pipe.
1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) plug.
2. Disconnect the plug from the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
3. Remove the intake air hose (one clip).
4. Undo the clips.

7. Remove the lower part of the air cleaner housing (push fit).
• Pull off the crankcase ventilation valve.
8. Remove both headlamps according to Operation Number 32 115 0.

9. Remove the intake air duct of the air cleaner (seven plastic clips).
• Unclip the right‐hand headlamp wiring harness and release it from the inner fender.
10. Detach the front bumper according to Operation Number 43 423 0.

11. Detach the bumper guide rail on the right‐hand side and release it from the fender on the left‐hand side (right‐hand side shown).
1. Remove the bolt.
2. Remove the three clips.

NOTE:

Immediately close off the refrigerant line and the connections.

12. Undo the refrigerant line at the collector/dehydrator.
1. Detach the bracket.
2. Detach the refrigerant line from the collector/dehydrator.
13. Undo the radiator intermediate panel on the left and right at the fender (two bolts) and undo the windscreen washer reservoir (one bolt).

14. Undo the refrigerant line from the side member (three clips, two clips shown).

NOTE:

Immediately close off the refrigerant line and the connections.

15. Detach the refrigerant line from the expansion valve.

NOTE:

Do not damage the oil pan. Use suitable packing underneath.

16. Support the engine/transmission using a trolley jack.

17. Remove the front engine mounting bracket and the ground strap (one nut).
1. Three bolts.
2. One nut

18. Use a suitable tool to push the engine to the left, then support it with a wooden wedge and remove the refrigerant line towards the front.

Install

NOTE:

When installing a new refrigerant line, correct the refrigerant oil quantity in accordance with the ”General Specifications" in this section.

NOTE:

Refer to the ”General Specifications" for the torques.

19. Install the components in reverse order.
20. Evacuate and fill the air conditioning system as described in Operation Number 34 620 0.
21. Check the operation of the air conditioning system.
