Removal and Installation of Front Door Exterior Handle

Removal and Installation
Remove
1. Close the door window and disconnect the battery negative lead.
2. Remove the door trim panel (refer to Operation Number 43 705 0).

CAUTION:

Do not touch the adhesive surface as re‐bonding will be impaired.
3. Locally detach the protective sheet.
   Using a plastic knife, (disposable cutlery) cut through the Butyl strip to enable the protective sheet to be peeled back for access. DO NOT attempt to peel the sheeting from the door without cutting the butyl.

4. Loosen the door handle by removing the handle retaining screw.
   Remove the blanking plug from the door to access the torx screw.

5. Displace the door lock assembly (three torx screws).

6. Disconnect the lock actuating lever from the handle, (shown removed for clarity).
   Carefully pull the lock inward and down from the handle.

7. Disconnect the lock actuating lever from the handle, (continued).
   Slide the handle towards the front of the vehicle, and pull the barrel end out from the door.
8. Remove the door handle.
   With the barrel end disengage from the lock and out from the door panel, slide the handle towards the rear of the vehicle and out.
Install
9. Refit the components in reverse order.
1. Take care to properly engage the lock actuating lever.
2. Into the handle lever bracket.
3. Whilst also engaging the barrel rod.
10. Check and adjust the handle to lock lever adjustment.
   In some instances the adjustment may have been altered, resulting in excess door handle travel before actuating the door lock assembly.

11. Check and adjust the handle to lock lever adjustment (continued).
   To adjust this, loosen the lock actuating lever by slackening the lever positioning screw through the access cut out in the door edge panel.

12. Check and adjust the handle to lock lever adjustment, (continued).
   Position the actuating lever to give approximately one millimetre of interference fit against the handle lever, and tighten the locking screw (shown removed for clarity).
