Removal and Installation
Remove
1. Disconnect the battery negative lead.
2. Remove the tailgate trim panels (refer to Operation Number 43 744 0).

3. Disconnect the tailgate wiring harness connections from the lamps and wiper motor.
4. Unclip the harness from the tailgate.

5. Disconnect the tailgate screenwash tube.
   Displace the screenwash jet from the tailgate by depressing the retaining clip and disconnect the rubber hose.

6. Displace the rubber grommet and withdraw the harness and screenwash tube from the tailgate.

7. Using a suitable marker pen, mark the position of the hinges on the tailgate.

WARNING:

The tailgate is of considerable weight and will have no resistance to fall once either of the damper assemblies have been disconnected, it is therefore vital that the tailgate is properly and securely supported in the fully open position before attempting to disconnect any of the dampers.
8. Disconnect the two tailgate dampers.
   With the tailgate securely supported in the fully open position, lever off the retaining clip and pull the damper from the mounting post.

9. Remove the tailgate.
   With the assistance of another technician, remove the four hinge to tailgate retaining bolts and lift off.
Install
10. Refit the components in reverse order.
