Horn Switch: Service and Repair
MODELS EQUIPPED W/TURN SIGNAL MOUNTED SWITCH
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
On 1982-84 models with tilt column, remove upper extension shroud. Unsnap shroud from retaining clip located at the 9 o'clock position.
3.
On all models, remove trim shroud or shroud halves.
4.
Remove turn signal switch lever from switch. Grasp lever and use a pulling and twisting motion while pulling lever straight out from switch.
5.
Peel back foam shield from turn signal switch, then disconnect two electrical connectors from switch.
6.
Remove turn signal switch attaching screws and the switch from vehicle.
7.
Reverse procedure to install.
MODELS EQUIPPED W/STEERING WHEEL MOUNTED HORN SWITCH
Cougar & Thunderbird
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Pry switch cover off top. Use caution not to damage cover when removing.
3.
Remove switch attaching screws, then lift switch from steering wheel. Use caution not to loose contact spring.
4.
Reverse procedure to install.
LTD & Marquis
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
With steering wheel in straight ahead position, pry off steering wheel hub cover and horn switch.
3.
Remove horn switch electrical connectors.
4.
Reverse procedure to install.
