Seating - Front Seat Backrest Ikon 1999 (01/2000-)
Disassembly and Assembly

Disassembly

  1. Remove the head restraint.

  1. Remove the head restraint guides.

  1. Remove the outer seat trim.
    1. Detach the front clip.
    1. Detach the rear locating tang.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Note the position of the safety belt stalk spacer.
    Remove the safety belt buckle.

  1. Remove the recliner handwheel.
    1. Remove the cap.
    1. Remove the handwheel.

  1. Remove the recliner mechanism plate protector.
    1. Remove the spring retainer plate.
    1. Remove the plate protector.

  1. Remove the inner seat trim.

  1. Remove the backrest spring clips.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:High series seats have an additional inner valance attached to the seat base. Care must be taken when removing the backrest not to damage the valance.
    Remove the backrest.
    1. Tip the backrest forwards.
    1. Detach the backrest recliner from the spindle.

  1. Detach the plastic retaining strip at the base of the seat.

  1. Roll the seat cover up the backrest to access the lower lateral tensioner rods.

  1. Detach the lower edge of the left and right-hand lateral tension rods.
  1. Roll the cover down the backrest.

  1. Detach the upper left and right-hand lateral tension rods.

  1. Detach the backrest cover from the front of the cushion.
    • Cut the three hog rings.

  1. Remove the cover.
    • Detach the upper plastic retaining strip on the rear of the backrest.

  1. Remove the backrest foam pad.

  1. Remove the anti-squeak mat.
    • Cut the hog rings.

  1. Remove the suspension mat.
    • Remove the springs.

Assembly

  1. To assemble, reverse the disassemble procedure.
      NOTE:
      NOTE:The anti-squeak mat is available as a one size service part which should be cut to match the original mat.
    • Use hog ring pliers to close the hog rings. Do not use any other tool. The hog rings must be closed to overlap 8mm as illustrated.
