BUMPER - REAR STONE END DEFLECTOR - STONE ABRASION
FORD 1983 LTD STATION WAGON
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 MARQUIS STATION WAGON
Subject vehicles driven on roads or streets where loose stones or gravel is present may experience stone abrasion damage to the rear bumper end stone
deflectors. For vehicles exposed to this condition a kit has been released consisting of die cut urethane shields. These shields were added in production
on approximately December 6, 1982. The installation procedure is outlined below.
1.
Service the damaged paint as appropriate.
NOTE:
Before installing the urethane film shields, the new paint must be dry and clean, and the end deflector warmed to at least 65~F.
2.
With clean hands peel and cut off half of the protective paper from shield. Carefully lay the protective paper back on the shield covering the
exposed "sticky" back. Be careful that back side of shield is not contaminated by dirty fingers, grease or oil.
3.
Using a mixture of 25% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol/75% clean water in a clean plastic spray bottle, wet down end deflector where shield is to be
installed.
4.
Pull off remaining end of the protective paper, and use the other end with the protective paper backing (Step #2) as a "handle".
