It may be necessary to remove or reposition radiator, A/C compressor and grille components to provide adequate clearance.
1.
To remove camshaft, remove cylinder front cover and timing chain.
2.
Remove distributor cap and spark plug wires, then remove distributor.
3.
Disconnect automatic transmission oil cooler lines from radiator and remove radiator.
4.
Remove intake manifold as an assembly.
5.
Remove rocker arm covers.
6.
Loosen rocker arm stud nuts or bolts and rotate rocker arms to one side.
7.
Remove pushrods, keeping them in sequence in a rack so they may be installed in their original location.
8.
Using a magnet, remove valve lifters and place them in a rack in sequence so they may be installed in their original location.
9.
Remove camshaft thrust plate, Fig. 9 and carefully pull camshaft from engine, using care to avoid damaging camshaft bearings.
10.
Reverse procedure to install.
