Damp carpeting in the rear passenger footwell may be caused by a lack of sealing at the bottom of the air inlet duct assembly in the front bulkhead. The
water tracks under the carpet to the low area, the rear footwell. The seal around the drain for the inlet duct assembly is held off the surface by the stiff
gasket material laying across the lower mounting bolt boss. To repair this condition, trim the stiff gasket as shown in Figure 1.

Verify the location of the leak.

Loosen the plastic inner fender splash shield on the right front fender and push plastic shield aside to allow access to the air inlet duct assembly
drain area.
3.
Loosen the air inlet duct mounting bolts as instructed in Body Shop Manual, Volume A, Section 36-41. Do not remove heater/A/C assembly.
4.
Push on the lower mounting stud to allow access to the stiff gasket over the mounting boss.
5.
Raise the soft sealing gasket and trim the stiff gasket as shown in Figure 1.
6.
Using RTV Dispenser 021-00031, apply a thin coat of silicone rubber adhesive sealant to the inlet housing under the stiff gasket.
7.
Reinstall the air inlet duct assembly, and reposition heater/A/C assembly.
8.
Check area for water leaks, seal as required.
9.
Reinstall plastic inner fender splash shield.
