Wheel Bearing: Adjustments
1.
Raise and support vehicle so front wheels are free to turn.
2.
Remove wheel cover, then the grease cap from hub.
3.
Clean excess grease from end of spindle, then remove cotter pin and nut lock.
4.
Back off adjusting nut three turns, then rock wheel assembly in and out several times to push shoe and linings away from rotor.
5.
Torque adjusting nut to 17---25 ft. lbs. while rotating the wheel assembly.
6.
Back off adjusting nut 1-2 turn, then retighten nut to 10---12 inch lbs.
7.
Install nut lock on nut so castellations on lock are aligned with cotter pin hole in spindle, then install cotter pin.
8.
Check wheel rotation. If wheel rotates roughly or makes noise, lubricate or replace bearings as necessary.
