Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Testing and Inspection
Perform this test only when the brake application will not disconnect the speed control system.
1.
Check operation of stop lamps by applying approximately 6 lbs. of effort to the brake pedal. If more than 6 lbs. is required, check brake pedal
actuation and stop lamp switch.

If stop lamps do not function properly, the stop lamp switch, circuit fuse or bulbs must be checked.
3.
If stop lamps function properly, check for battery voltage on circuit 296 at the 6-way connector. Depress brake pedal until stop lamps are lit.
Check voltage on dark/green stripe lead at the 6-way connector on all models except 1982---87 Escort, Lynx, 1982---83 EXP, LN7 and 1984---85
EXP, Tempo and Topaz. On 1982---87 Escort, Lynx, 1982---83 EXP, LN7 and 1984---85 EXP, Tempo and Topaz, check voltage on red/light
green lead at the 6-way connector. The difference between two voltage readings must not exceed 1.5 volts. If the voltage difference is greater than
1.5 volts, a high resistance in the circuit exists which must be found and corrected.
4.
On models which incorporate ``Resume,'' perform ``Vacuum Dump Valve Test.''
