Owner Letter
Dear Owner:
This is to inform you of a Ford Motor Company special service program involving certain 1984 and 1985-model LTD cars equipped with the optional
police package. Our records show that you own an eligible car identified by the serial number shown on the envelope that contained this letter. (If you
own more than one eligible car, the serial numbers are shown on the enclosed listing.)
Reasons For The Program:
The cars' engines may overheat and detonate because of low engine coolant levels or uneven fuel distribution. In addition, the heater core may become
damaged by excessive fluid pressures. These conditions might occur when the cars are operated at high speeds after extended periods of engine idle and
when the ignition is subsequently turned off.
Service To Be Performed:
Any Ford dealer in your area will upgrade the engine cooling system, install an intake manifold-to-spacer gasket and a heater core waterflow restrictor.
This service will be provided at no charge to you through June 30, 1987. After June 30, 1987, it will not be covered under this program, but will be your
responsibility.
To Have This Service Performed:
Please contact any Ford dealer in your area as soon as possible to arrange for service.
Refund For Prior Repairs:
If you paid to have the service provided by this program performed on your car prior to the announcement of this program, Ford will refund you the parts
and labor costs that you incurred. This includes heater core replacement, and the deductible amount you may have paid under the 24-month/ 24,000-mile
powertrain warranty, the Ford Extended Service Plan or any similar plan in effect on your car.
To request a refund, please present proof of payment for the service to any Ford dealer by June 30, 1987. The dealer will arrange for the refund.
As shown in your Owner Guide, if your car is operated using unleaded gasoline with an octane rating lower than 87, persistent, heavy spark knock might
result and eventually cause engine damage. For efficient operation of your car, we urge you to use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of
87.
In addition, the coolant recovery reservoir should be checked at least once a month. The coolant level must remain at or above the "ADD" mark for a
cold engine, and at or above the "FULL HOT" mark for a hot engine.
Ford Motor Company is taking this action as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain owner confidence in its products. We hope that this program serves to
help assure your satisfaction with your Ford-built vehicle.
