ISSUE:
Chipped, peeling or paint wearing thin on polycast wheels may be caused by normal road wear.
ACTION:
To correct this, repair the affected area and repaint the wheel with an aerosol spray can of paint. Refer to the following service procedure.
NOTE:
Wheels with a surface full of small "craters" or "pock marks" may have improperly molded or cured urethane underneath the paint surface. In
this case, it may not be possible to repair these wheels by repainting.
1.
Remove the wheel.
2.
Remove the trim ring and wheel ornament.
3.
Clean tar, grease and oil from the wheel.
4.
Lightly sand the affected area.
5.
Repair any gouged or damaged areas in the urethane face with a urethane repair kit. Apply the repair material carefully and mold into the affected
areas to minimize sanding and blending. Featheredge the repair material into the urethane to match the original contours.
CAUTION: DO NOT use any paint strippers to clean the polycast wheel surface. Strippers suitable for removing urethane paints will also attack
the molded urethane.
6.
Wash the wheel with a mild detergent and water. Rinse and dry. After thoroughly dry, wipe with DuPont Prep-Sol or a warm temperature blend
enamel reducer. Mask the tire to protect it from any overspray.
7.
Repaint the wheel using an aerosol spray can of paint. Refer to the paint application chart on Page 18 of this TSB for the correct color match.
