Rear Suspension - Crossmember—Wagon Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All Vehicles
  1. Slacken the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and remove the rear road wheels.
  1. Detach the handbrake rear cables from the primary cable. For additional information, refer to Section  206-05 Parking Brake and Actuation.
Vehicles with Anti-lock brakes
  1. Remove the ABS sensors.

  1. Detach the ABS sensor leads.
All vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Fit blanking plugs to prevent excessive dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the brake pipes.
    1. Slacken the brake pipe unions.
    1. Remove the locking clips.
    1. Disconnect the brake pipe unions.

  1. Detach the tie bar brackets (two bolts each side).
  1. Support the crossmember.

  1. Remove the crossmember (three bolts each side).

Installation

All Vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The final torquing of the rear suspension components should be carried out with the vehicle on its wheels.
    Raise the crossmember into position engaging the guide pins into the alignment holes.

  1. Install the components in reverse order.

Vehicles with Anti-lock brakes

All vehicles
  1. Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.

  1. Check the toe setting and adjust and adjust if necessary. Refer to General Procedures.
