Fuel System - General Information - Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) - Fuel System Leak Test Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
General Procedures

Cylindrical Fuel Tank

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:The fuel pressure must be released before attempting any repairs. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    Fold down the rear seat backrest.

  1. Remove the cylindrical fuel tank cover and the air tight cover.

  1. Remove the fuel tank filler valve cover.

  1. Remove the fuel tank filler valve cover.
    1. Release the retaining clip.
    1. Detach the fuel filler valve rubber cap.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that all disturbed joints are fully tightened.
    Select LPG mode using the LPG select switch
  1. Switch the ignition ON, this will open the fuel tank solenoids and pressurize the system.
  1. Check for leaks over all of the unions with an electronic leak detector. If a leak is detected identify the exact union with a liquid leak detector.
  1. Repair the detected leak. Test the system for normal operation.
  1. When the system is confirmed to have no leaks, install the fuel tank filler valve cover and the cylindrical fuel tank cover.
  1. Complete the vehicle log with the test details.

Ring Fuel Tank

  1. WARNING:

    Remove the luggage compartment protective floor covering.

  1. Remove the fuel tank filler valve cover and air tight cover.

  1. Remove the fuel tank filler valve cover.
    1. Release the retaining clip.
    1. Detach the fuel filler valve rubber cap.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that all disturbed joints are fully tightened.
    Select LPG mode using the LPG select switch.
